Nasubi

The Japanese once again blur the line between entertainment and sadism in the popular television show Kensho Seikatsu. In this show aspiring comedian Nasubi answers the call for an audition and unwillingly becomes part of a television show for the next year. He is trapped in a room with no clothes, no means of entertainment, and no food. The only way he can get any of these things is to fill out contest entries found in magazines with the stacks of postcards left in the room. While most Western cultures would never allow something like this citing the Geneva convention, the Japanese love it. It became a ratings smash. If you’re ever in Japan the show can be found at your local video store in the comedy section.

Crimes Against Humanity

April Winchell is a radio host on KABC in Los Angeles. Her website is a pot of gold of strange multimedia featuring MP3′s of songs that simply shouldn’t exist like ABBA songs in Hindi, terrifying Christian recordings, and soul-destroying Stairway to Heaven covers. Too much to mention here. Kill an afternoon and visit her site.

Lost and Found

Found Magazine is a website dedicated to chronicling interesting found objects like photgraph and notes. Each note or photo tells a partial story and part of the fun is speculating what really went on. Quite captivating.

Cobalt Blue

This is one of the songs I’m working on. I came up with it this week and sent Mason the demo. So if you’re interested in what I’m up to, here it is. This is a single-mic, single-take demo so no expectations, okay. I’ll my posting at least one demo a week up here for download. However, only one per week due to website constraints. But judging by the web statistics thing I’ve added to the site, I’m the only one who visits here on a regular basis. Thanks jerk-arms!!

Kid Robot

Kid Robot is a store in San Francisco which sells collectable action figures. Alternately called “fashion toys” (Japan), “Hong Kong vinyl” or “urban vinyl action figures”. The trend originated in Hong Kong but now includes designers from Japan, England, Singapore, and the United States. This emerging movement is a unique fusion of East-meets-West culture, and connects to other movements like urban street culture, graffiti and hip-hop.

Iraqometer

Yeah, I could watch the news or read the newspaper but I have better things to do with my time. Well here’s the Iraqometer – distilling the information down to it’s basest elements: death, bombs, fire, etc.
